Jeremy Corbyn reveals his New Year revolution as he awaits General Election in 2019

Jeremy Corbyn reveals his New Year revolution as he awaits General Election in 2019 Jeremy Corbyn predicts a general election in 2019 – and says he is raring to take on the Tories. In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mirror, the Labour leader spelled out his plans for the year ahead. His party has been on a war footing since the last election and he thinks those preparations might come in very useful. On his predictions for 2019, he said: “The Government is going to struggle. It may well resign. There may well be a general election. And I can’t wait.” If Labour wins, he says he already has a Brexit plan – return to Brussels and negotiate the best possible deal. And Mr Corbyn insists he will make sure Theresa May’s deal is thrown out by Parliament. “I’m determined to hold this government to account, vote the deal down and reopen those negotiations,” he declared. “We know what we’re doing. We’re clear on our objectives. This government is getting it badly wron

5 bits of bad news you might have missed as MPs go home for Christmas

Parliament has officially risen and MPs have headed back to their constituencies for the Christmas break. They won't return to the House of Commons until Monday 7 January. But the political year coming to an end doesn't mean the news stops. And a cynic might even suggest some people might wish to take advantage of the season, when people are more likely to be interested in repeats of Die Hard than the news, to bury things that aren't entirely flattering. It's called "take out the trash day" for a reason. So here's a roundup of the things you might have missed as MPs head off on their lengthy Christmas  Public health budgets to tackle causes of early death will be cut by 85 million next year, new figures show.Despite skyrocketing obesity and addiction levels in communities the Tories are forcing through more “devastating” cuts to local council budgets. The Government quietly announced the 3.3% cut for 2019/20 after years of drastic cuts

Brexit Secretary can't say what the alternative to the Irish backstop is

The Brexit Secretary has been unable to say what the alternative to the Irish backstop is. The Prime Minister is preparing to return to Brussels after MPs gave their backing to a proposal to replace the backstop with "alternative arrangements" to avoid a hard border in Ireland. Mrs May said she would seek "legally binding changes to the Withdrawal Agreement that deal with concerns on the backstop while guaranteeing no return to a hard border". This is despite the EU's refusal to reopen the deal. And this morning her Brexit Secretary was unable to say what these "alternative arrangements" could be. Stephen Barclay was asked repeatedly on the Today programme but could only say the UK was "exploring in terms of the use of technology... looking at things like the time limit". Both of these options have already been dismissed by the EU. Mr Barclay added: "There are a number of options, there are issues in terms of having time l

Jermaine Jackson breaks down denying brother Michael was a predatory paedophile

Jermaine Jackson broke down in tears as he tried to defend his brother Michael after a documentary slurred the King of Pop. The singer has said the star of a new documentary about sexual abuse claims against Michael "tried to sue the family for billions after changing his story." Wade Robson, who is involved in the controversial documentary Leaving Neverland, has said he was sexually abused by Michael Jackson alongside another victim, who has said the star staged a mock wedding at his ranch. However, Michael's brother Jermaine has called Wade's testimony into question, saying while he denied any sexual abuse under oath at Michael's trial, he also tried to sue the family for £1.5billion after Michael's death. Jermaine told Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan that Wade denied being sexually abused in Michael's trial in 2005, categorically stating this under oath and also to his own mother. But the singer has claimed since

Liverpool can only throw away Premier League title after Man City defeat

This will surely go down as the night when Manchester City lost their grip on the Premier League crown. The night when Newcastle caused one of the biggest upsets of the season and effectively made it Liverpool's title to lose. The night when it all went horribly wrong for Pep Guardiola in a sloppy, frustrating second half surrender when they blew a lead and crumbled on an incredible night at St James’s Park. City simply never lose to Newcastle, this was their first defeat in 23 games against the Toon Army and it was without doubt the most damaging result of their season. City boss Guardiola had warned they might have to win all of their remaining 15 games - and yet they slipped up at the most unlikely hurdle. Set against a backdrop of fan protest against owner Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez hinting he could quit, Newcastle was a game you thought City would just have to turn up and win. But they were never quite at their best. Even after Sergio Aguero put them ahead afte

UK weather forecast: Snow up to 10cm deep to bury Britain after -14C deep freeze

Heavy snow will fall across the UK for at least three more days as a new winter storm threatens to cut off villages and leave drivers stranded on impassable roads. Britons are bracing for what will likely be the coldest night of winter - with temperatures plunging to -14C - before the new blast of snow dumps up to 10cm. Commuters in western and northern parts of the country were facing travel chaos on Wednesday as snow and dangerous black ice caused treacherous road conditions. Snow or wintry showers will taper off in most places through the day, but "hidden" ice will remain a major threat as temperatures remain cold. Overnight, it could plunge to -14C in rural parts of Scotland before another blast of heavy snow hits on Thursday and carries over into Friday, with further wintry showers expected through the weekend. Britons have been urged to stock up on food and prepare for  another Arctic blast that will bring "very significant snowfall"  - up to 10cm
